A British Paralympian wowed children when he visited a Bushey leisure centre over the summer holidays.   Military Speaker and Paralympic discus thrower, Derek Derenalagi, met children at the Bushey Grove Leisure Centre, in Aldenham Road. The former soldier was quizzed by 25 day camp children for nearly an hour on topics ranging from how he lost his legs to what it was like to compete in the London 2012 Paralympics. He also demonstrated his throwing abilities and even took off his legs for the children to hold. Mike McMorrin, head playleader, said: "The children absolutely loved talking to Derek and meeting a real life local hero."He was lovely and very patient with the children who asked him lots of questions about the Paralympics. It was a great surprise for them."

Derek is currently training at the centre for Rio 2016.
