Sensational allegations emerged during ex-SAS sniper Danny Nightingale's court martial for possession of an illegal firearm
The former chief of Princess Diana's royal bodyguards yesterday dismissed new claims the SAS was involved in her death 16 years ago.
Sensational allegations emerged during ex-SAS sniper Danny Nightingale's court martial for possession of an illegal firearm.
Ex-Met royal protection chief Dai Davies said: "I'm mystified how any new information can possibly allege anything other than this was a tragic accident."
And former SAS officer and Military Speaker Colonel Tim Collins said the claim was "utter nonsense".
Allegations of a "cover-up" appeared in a letter from the parents-in-law of a special forces soldier to his commanding officer. The soldier was a key prosecution witness in Nightingale's trial.
Scotland Yard said the Met was "scoping information" and assessing its "relevance and credibility."
Diana and boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed died in a car crash in a Paris underpass in 1997.
