Former Army Officer gives talk at Worksop College

Colonel Tim Collins OBE spoke to students to provoke a change in perception of global politics, decision making, leadership and history.

Colonel Tim Collins, OBE is a retired Northern Irish military officer in the British Army. He is best known for his role in the Iraq War in 2003, and his inspirational eve-of-battle speech, a copy of which apparently hung in the White House’s Oval Office.

He told pupils no one tells you how to be a commanding officer and historical models come to the fore, in particular, on the basis of its universal truths, Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’. Indeed, Tim carried his own copy with him throughout the Iraq Campaign.

“Eager, hungry for knowledge and supremely self-confident young people who asked the most searching and intelligent questions and displayed a maturity far ahead of their age.

“One cannot but admire a college which can generate an environment of such security, energy and confidence.”
